Thatch busting takes please in conjunction with over seeding and an application of high p fertilizer.This is used to remove badly contaminated areas of moss.

Once the thatch busting is complete it introduces new tillers by over seeding the area. Once thatch busting is completed the removal of surface water is significantly easier. It is also a small form of aeration on your lawn.
